Impressions
Lovers of Persian-inspired ceramics will find much to enjoy in the work of Carolinda Tolstoy, a London-based ceramicist whose work is collected worldwide. Tolstoy has travelled regularly throughout Russia, the Middle East and North Africa. She has also studied the pottery of the Ancient world, looking particularly to the borderlands where Grecian designs merged with older local forms. She has long looked to the stylistic links running south to north from Persia through Central Asia to Russia. Her straight-sided bowls and bellied pots, some bulbous, some slender, recall the ceramics of renaissance Persia.
